Thank you very much. Let’s move on cue card topic. Here’s the question:
Describe a situation from your life where you had to be polite to someone. Please say
- When and where did it happen?
- How did you manage to be polite?
- How did you feel about it later?
I’d like you to speak on this topic for 2 minutes. Before that, you have 1 minute to prepare. And here’s some paper and pen for you to make some notes if you wish.
Well, could you please begin.
Well, I still remember a situation when I had to do a team project during my last semester at my university.
In detail, there was a person who is really selfish-streak and he has a tendency to lose his temper when someone rejected his idea or has the different opinion of him. Especially, he wasn’t very interested in hearing the ideas or views of the other people in the group, comprising mine. Anyway, we had to work together for nearly three months and it was absolutely difficult at times because of his personality and character.
As a consequence, our group couldn’t finish this project perfectly and we got the lowest mark in our class. Luckily, it was enough for us to pass this last and an extremely important project of the senior year.
From my point of view, once we do a team job, each member needs to know how to respect the ideas that everybody makes a contribution for the overall benefit and it doesn’t mean we just follow an opinionated person who put himself first. Moreover, I suppose that it was truly necessary for people to pull together and try to cement a good working relationship even though it was stressful at times.
Therefore, in my opinion, the best way to manage a group is to listen and know how to chose the right and the best ideas. In addition, if we want to be the cream of the crop, choosing an inspirational leader is also very important because this one knows the advantages and disadvantages of the others and how to combine the best of all. Meanwhile, the rest of the group need to raise their voices, show their ideas and follow the right assignment of the leader.
Thank you very much.
- Do you think it is important to be polite all the time and to everyone?
Yes, of course. I suppose that to be polite is the best way to maintain the good relationship and solve the conflicts. Furthermore, in every sector, we always need someone who is polite to slow down the rude ones.
- Do you think the elderly should teach young people to be polite? Why?
Personally, I guess that everyone needs to learn to be polite and teach others about it. In detail, it’s easier for the elder to show their politeness that the youth can follow and gives their real experience to the youth in order to understand.
- Is it important to be polite to strangers, in your opinion? Why?
As I’ve mentioned before, we always need to be polite, even with the strangers. It means, we can treat them well but still know how to be cautious to avoid dangers.
Thank you very much. It’s the end of our test.
